What is your best Whitetail round?

I shoot WT's with a variety of cartridges ranging on the low power side being a .44 mag to a .338 Win Mag. and .35 Whelan on the up power side. They are all my best rounds when I use one of them because when I select say the .44 in a handgun I have done it because I want the challenge of the limitations that particular firearm brings with it. I know I am going to have to close the distance on a 200 yard animal or I will have to pass on it. To me, that is what makes it interesting. My go to rifle is an old pre war M-70 Win in 30-06, but last year I let it set more because my G2 Contender with a 24 in. barrel in 30-30 was so light it was a real joy to carry. I guess my best whitetail round is what I have in my hands at that particular time.

I think the OP meant what is the most effective .243 round on whitetail. I've had best luck with 85 gr Sierra Gameking HPBT over a healthy charge of IMR4064.

You could very well be right! In that case I will say that I have reloaded 100 gr. Sierra's for two different shooters on our hunting property. Where I am hunting in Georgia we have a good population of deer and are starting to get overrun with hogs. I and several other shooters have been thoroughly impressed with the performance of this bullet. We have not recovered any (I like pass throughs) and by the way animals that have been shot expire we are apparently getting excellent expansion and the bullets are holding together. Two years ago one young huntger took what I would estimate to be a 175 pound hog with a shot that was a bit far back. It moved about 10 feet and expired, complete pass through. I am loading them in front of mil. surp 4831 a grain or so off the top listing.

I have good luck with just about any Winchester or Hornady ammo. I have a Remington model 700 in .243 but honestly i wouldn't worry to much about what others are having good luck with. What does your rifle shoot consistently? How available is the ammo for you? Do you reload or prefer factory loads? I am by no means trying to give you a hard time about asking what others are having good luck with because it never hurts to ask. Personally i would buy a few boxes of different types of ammo. Most importantly though it all comes down to what gives you, your best performance. Any ammo will do just fine as long as you can place your shot in vital spot.

I use the Federal (blue box) with Sierra bullets at 100 grains.
Very accurate and deadly. Cost is about $18/box of 20. Range
(for me) is about 250 yards. 100 yards or less is a slam dunk.

My favorite deer load in my .243 is the Federal premium load with the 100 gr Nosler Partition bullet. I've taken deer with this load from 250 yards to bayonet range and it's always worked great.
