I just bought a Remington Model 700 ADL in .223 REM. What I would like to know is what would be practical for me to hunt, and what animals would be over/underkill with the .223? |

The .223 Remington is a great varmint and/or predator cartridge. Overkill for squirrels, and not enough for deer. Some folks use them on deer, but shot placement and bullet type are critical. __________________ Winchester 100 .243; Marlin XS7 .308; Stevens 200 .223; Rossi 92 .45LC; Marlin 1894C .357M; Marlin 30AS .30-30; NEF Pardner Pump 12ga; Mossberg 500 Turkey 20ga; Winchester 1200 20ga; Savage Mark II F .22LR; Henry H001 .22LR; Marlin 60SB .22LR; Ruger 10/22 DSP .22LR; Savage 93R17 GV .17HMR; Remington Genesis .50 cal ML; Ruger Vaquero .45LC; Ruger Blackhawk .357M; Ruger SR9c 9mm; Ruger Single-Six .22LR; Browning Buck Mark Camper .22LR; Crosman Powermaster 760 .177; Crosman Storm XT .177 |

How many grains would you think to use on deer? |

129 for 6.5x55, 165 for .308, None for .223. If you live in Fla. or a place they are the size of a dog, you should be set. But, a big northern animal, never. __________________ Freedom is not free. The best of us always leave too soon. |

I would not hesitate to use the .223 on wild pigs. I have taken and witnessed many pigs taken with a 22 mag. |

Funny you ask this because a little over 3 months ago I did a lot of research on this topic. As has been stated, varmints and rodents can easily be taken with it. The deer issue is a widely debated topic, but if you shoot, shoot, and shoot some more, and have a good understanding of your rifle and the anatomy of the animal you are hunting (deer) then taking one will be a non-issue because it is all about shot placement. A good shot with a .223 will always be more likely to kill a deer than a miss with a .50. |

I know a girl who takes deer with a 22-250 in fl. So why would a .223 not work? Would the 22-250 have more knockdown power? |

A++ to that, i love yote hunting with my .223 (5.56). My holograchic sight makes shot placement in the dark or low light very easy. __________________ Century Arms AR-15A2, 5.56
