I was watching this and the first question in my head was how in the hell do you simulate 600yrds at 300yrds? __________________ "come on you sons of b***hs! do you want to live forever?" Sergeant Daniel Daly, USMC, Belleau Wood France June 6th 1918

I would guess they have scaled down targets . We are in the process of making some minature 1/2" steel plates in the shape of body targets that will only be about 14" tall
Thats how we intend to call ours 500 yard shots as they would be 5'8" at 100 yards |

so they would simulate 600 yards by scaling down the targets? I guess that makes sense but what about the variables involved in a 600yrd shot comapred to a 300yrd shot __________________ "come on you sons of b***hs! do you want to live forever?" That only somewhat simulates the longer distance. The longer time period for wind to affect the bullet isn't taken into account. Bullet drop and slowing down of the bullet can't be replicated by making smaller targets. Changing and keeping account on your scope dope isn't needed either.
It would be fun, though. I like to pull the trigger and blow holes in things. __________________ Join the NRA! Stop the Brady madness! |

Variables are just that , conditions that may and can change at any given time . So basically your getting the conditions at 300 yards how ever you are shooting at a much smaller target which makes your bullet drop and wind compensation larger also |

I don't agree that the bullet drop and wind compensation are affected by a smaller target. If you aim for the middle it is the same whether the target is a full size or an egg. __________________ Join the NRA! Stop the Brady madness! |

What if you used lower powered rounds or down loaded rounds to simulate 300 yard bullet speed at the muzzle? __________________ "I would not be an old man if I had not been an armed young man." JTJ

They sell reduced targets for just about every distance to be shot at a 100yd distance go to champion shooter supply and order we are doing what they call a minipalma at our club next year and that is 800,900,1000 yard reduced targets can shoot metallic or scope rifle in rim fire shot in prone position with shooting coat and sling or what ever you got as far as coat or sling then after that we are going to shoot a cmp rimfire sporter which is shot on b-19 target or you can get b-19c which is center repair targets but what ever distance you shoot is the wind conditions you will have cant simulate different distance conditions that would be cool but some high power shooters practice 200yd with a rim fire to simulate long distance shooting can do at 100 yd also on a good windy day |
