mag changes with the muzzle down
I just started Practical Rifle competition in a local gun club and they have a rule that your muzzle needs to stay below the berm. Every time I go to reload my mag I get in trouble for pulling my muzzle up. The range officer yells and I just wonder if there are any good ways to do a mag change and keep your muzzle down?

Interesting rule. I run the USPSA program at Dundee, and shoot USPSA
and Speed Steel at Tri-C. Everybody is still trying to figure it out,
especially when 2 degrees of muzzle up puts you over the berm in
the deeper practical bays.

To answer your original question---AR? Right handed? Don't they do
retention reloads at Practical Rifle?

Don't drop it from the shoulder. Drop the muzzle a bit as you whack
the mag release, grip and rip the old mag, turning the gun clockwise
so the mag well is pointed roughly toward the new mags on your belt.

Stash the old one, slam in a new one, give it a jerk to confirm seating,
re-establish your weak hand grip while rolling the gun back to the left
and bring the muzzle back up on target.

Drive down to Albany and shoot 3-gun. No muzzle rule.:)

Ok I'll give it a try.

The reason some ranges have no muzzle up rules is because launching bullets in a high ballistic arc have an unnerving tendency to go extremely far and nail some unsuspecting innocent tween the eyes. Murphy is a damn fine shot.

Your range prolly has houses or a roadway waaaay downrange
