The weekly 5 stage USPSA matches I attend cost $15. You usually get a $10 discount if you help with set up and tear down.

It'll vary depending on the size of the match and the area of the country you're in. Local matches here run about $20, some with a $5 discount for people who are members of the range.

The Smith & Wesson U.S. National Steel Championship is being held not far away. The entry fee for that is $175, but it's a national event, and there are prizes, both cash and other stuff.

Local competition costs go back to the club that sponsors the event. Paper, electricity, and target costs all come from entry fees.
If there are any prizes, the entry fees pay for that also.
