well let me tell you I think they all hate me because when i come in there is never anybody in the department to help me i told them to give me a key so i can help myself but that hasnt happened yet. Honestly though it seems i run into a diffrent person every single time.. They really hate when i go behind the counter to look at all the ammo but if they would stack the boxes a little better then i wouldnt have to and if there was somebody in the department who knew what to do then it would make it easier.

At least you can get up else to the boxes. My local WM has ammo locked in a glass case right in the aisle... finding an employee with a key is another story..

I've been reloading for 40 years, and that is a totally false statement. There is no way you can purchase new components, (brass, FMJ bullets, powder, and primers), and handload new 9 MM ammunition for $10.00 a box. Not to mention if you place any value on your time. Add it all up and $9.97 for new Federal FMJ 9 MM is a great buy. I don't care how much, or how fast you can handload.

Our wally just sells the basic hunting rifles and shotguns, no pistols or ARs. The also sell the basic hunting ammo like 12 and 20 gauge, .308, 30-06, 30-30, .22 and sometimes 7.62x39. They also have most handgun calibers. I went in the local meijer once and thier ammo selection was impressive. They had alot of the oddball calibers in addition to the usual stuff, i was surprised to see 8mm in stock there.

My local walmart has some pretty stupid policies concering the purchase of ammo. One afternoon while getting groceries i decided to get a couple boxes of 7.62 and they refused to let me put it in the cart with the rest of our stuff. The lady took it to customer service and upon checking out i had to make our cashier leave her station to go get it...what a crock of sh**.

I use that silly "rule" to my advantage, because I got sick and tired of the exact same thing. Now I take everything in my cart to the sporting goods section, and buy my ammo last. They are more than willing to check out the entire cart for me because most of the time they are just standing around any way. That way I don't have to wait in line with the rest of the cattle. It's just my wife and I, so we don't have all that much stuff.

Our local store is much more relaxed about this stuff. Last time I bought .22 Magnum and .38+P I asked the lady unlocking the cabinet if I had to pay for it at her counter. She said "Makes no difference. You can pay for it here or just pay for it up front at the check-out counter." Which I did. During hunting season the shotgun ammo is stacked up in the aisles. The gun counter is always staffed. Sure, she doesn't know much about guns, but then I don't usually go there for information. I can also buy most common caliber ammo at Ace Hardware. It sits open on a shelf by the cashier. It's 60 miles round trip to the closest real gun store, so I appreciate what Walmart has. I don't buy the Chinese crap they stock--neither the clothes nor the fish. But they have stuff in stock that's not available anywhere else around here. The last two guns I bought, I bought at Walmart. No hassle. They do escort you out the front door with your gun, especially if you buy ammo for it at the same time. They're a little jumpy about that.

i do buy some ammo at walmart, just because of the fact that they do carry most of the most common ones and our is open 24 hours and 7 days a week. i usually pay for mine in sporting goods unless i pick up a bunch of 12ga stacked on a pallet in the aisle. never had a problem yet. i don't doubt that some have had problems with their local walmart, but the problem can be attributed to the employees and the managers. also maybe state regulations on dealing with firearms and ammo. if i ever had to deal with the problems some have had with dealing with walmart, i would take my business elsewhere.
