Starting new ffl business
Hi, im new here. I own a krav Maga self defense gym in new Orleans, and am thinking about getting an ffl to be able to offer small arms/self defense weapons to our students as well as the surrounding community. I have the cash, store front, and customer base. I'm not expecting to make a fortune, or even a strong profit, mainly just something to supplement my other business, and cash flow. I've read all about the licenses and permits, but am curious as to how to get everything started, local authorities mainly. Any insight would be great. Thanks

Welcome to FTF. Town hall is the best place to start. Most people run into issues with town ordinances and zoning laws. After that you need to look into state laws. Then worry about the federal paperwork etc.

Class 3/NFA is for short barrelled rifles/shotguns, suppressors and full auto/select fire.
That's $3000/yr more than a standard ffl. Call the city and county courthouses for local regulations and restrictions. |
New ffl
So, best advice is to just go in to city hall and start asking questions then? I don't mind doing it, im there all the time anyway for my other business, most people even know me by name, lol. Thanks for the help guys, and should apply for a class 3, and ffl under the corporation, or personal?

Never put the business under your birth name.
Should a problem arise, then you have 2 entities. One the business (LLC), one as yourself. |
I have 2 businesses, I am president, and majority shareholder in both. I'm trying to get the ffl under the business name.Is that what your getting at, that last one confused me.
