Short shotgun barrel question

So my Saiga as it sits is almost 18.5 inches... I would like to take 4.5 inches off of the barrel and permanently attach a 5 inch monster brake on it.

My question is, in order to do this, for a few moments in its life, the Saiga will have a barrel length under 18 inches...

What do I need to do to be in compliance?

Say the feds raid my house, right as I am making adjustments:rolleyes:

In reality, I was wondering if they can retroactively bust you, say "You had to cut the barrel length before you added the brake, so therefore you broke the law."

Remove barrel from shotgun. Cut. Attach monster brake. Reinstall barrel.

Go deaf first time you fire it.

Well actually, once I cut the barrel I have to drive through 15 states over 5 months before I attach the brake. :p
