Default Magazine Manufacturing?

Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum so bare with me.

Recently, I have been asked to make a .22 rifle magazine. I run a small 3D printing start up. I have no doubts it can be done and will be a successful project/product. But here is where I am a little concerned and wanted to double check. From what I gather, I WILL NOT need a FFL since the magazine is "not considered" a gun component. Is this correct? I don't think it would be any problem to get a Type 7 FFL if I have to, but why if I don't.

Thank you
Colter

In theory you should be able to make anything except a receiver and still be within Federal laws. Local or state laws may vary.

as I read the FAQ at the ATF website, that does NOT require an 07 FFL.

And you may find an 07 to be more of a hassle (and expense) than you think- Excise tax paperwork, and 07s must also be licensed under ITAR, and pay a fairly hefty fee, even if they do not export firearms.
