I'm still waiting on my ATF interview and I'm gathering my inventory list in the process. I was wondering what dollar amount other home based dealers started out at? I was looking at around 5K for firearms as I'm not going to carry any high end merchandise to begin with. Any thoughts?

Start small and work your way up. Once you get some input from customers you can see what they are interested in. Also if you special order something for a customer then add a couple things for the shop at no additional shipping it sure helps the bottom line. Small steps are the way to go until you get your footing. I assume you have a day job so don't go for huge grand opening(that can be done much later). Use some of your cash for advertising to get your presence known. Put a business card in the hand of everyone, everywhere.
