Default Help a Newcomer!

I am ready to take the jump and buy my first full auto and really do not know where to begin. We have Class 3 dealers in Richmond but other then reading up on my own how do I go about finding a reputable dealer, have gun checked out before purchase, etc.? One Dealer told me prices are beginning to fall on Class III guns due to the economy. Is this true? Everything else is going through the roof...

Any advice on where to start would be most appreciate. Without a large knowledge base I want an M-16 like I shot in the Corp years ago but am being advised to get an Uzi because the ammo and barrels are cheaper...It looks like to me that like a big car, if I have to ask about the milage I shouldn't be looking at it...

Anyhow, anything to point me in the right direction would be appreciated...

Welcome to the forum, I'll let the others answer your Class III questions.

I can't afford ammo when I shoot it one at a time!

If I were to jump into Class III right now, I'd probably pick up an MP5SD. I'd really like an M60, but the MP5 wins in the practicality/cost of feeding department.

Well, here is the sticker shock- a LEGAL, PAPERED, TRANSFERABLE M-16 will run you somewhere between $16,000 and $20,000. Plus the $200 transfer tax. IF you can find one. In Richmond area I would talk to the folks at the firing range across from State Police HQ, and the folks at Chesterfield Armory. Economy my foot- everybody and his brother is snapping up guns and ammo (sales across the board are up 49% over last year.) Panic buying. Semi-auto AR-15 style rifles are flying off the rack, and prices on those are up as well. Cheapest legal full autos I have seen are the MAC-10/ MAC-11s, and they are a few thousand.

Well Baer45

MP5's are cheap to shoot but the up front bucks will kill you (unless your independently wealthy). If this is your first FA weapon, get a "Powder Springs 9mm M-10". Cheap to shoot and pretty cheap to buy. Most of them go for less that $4k and there are a lot of parts if you break it. My Son got into Class III this way (Infact He still has 3 of these).

So Hope your can get into it - its a great sport.
