Formality to being accepted ( assuming local and state laws allow you to deal I'n said items)
Send that form In with your $500 check to the ATF and you are all set. If you choose not to fill it out right away, no worries, you can apply at any time. I waited a while as my FFL went live In September, and I didn't expect Class III stuff from
Day 1.
Another thing to remember is the SOT is valid July 1-June 30 regardless of your FFL expire date and you pay the FULL $500 per year, regardless of when you apply and it will still expire June 30th.
ATF mails out renewal letters in early May. After that time, all applications typically are considered for the following year. Most people I talk to say if you are applying for the first time, send your application in the second last week of May and you should have your SOT by mid June, effective July 1st.
Happy FFL'ing!
