How do you get dealers or vendors once you get an FFL? Also the same for tactical gear distributors etc.

We've had a couple of threads asking this lately and I for one an just a bit confused. I know I would not open a business unless I had done all my homework first. How is the BATFE approving these FFL applications without folks having a solid business plan? Forgive me for being critical but I just find this kind of amazing...

In order to get the license, the BATF requires that you have a legitimate business with legit hours of operation. In order for that to be true, the person applying for the license must already have gotten a business up and running. All I'm seeing are folks asking for the listing's for suppliers/vendors.

While I agree with you that these folks should have had that lined up before they started, maybe they aren't planning on running a full blown gun store. I know I won't be.

One last point, the BATF makes it very clear that your 01 FFL is not to be used to increase your own firearm collection, Everything you have in stock must be for resale and must be kept seperate from your own collection of firearms.

I know I'm a bit anal about business - being an accountant makes me that way I suppose. I just find it very odd that folks getting/planning to get an FFL haven't investigated all facets of the business. I'm glad you put your last point in your post as I've heard about a lot of folks that plan to get an FFL to save a few bucks on their personal collection. I believe the BATFE seriously frowns on folks that get an FFL and don't actually "move" any guns.

It would be a cold day in hell before I'd decide to compete against Bud's...

The request seems a bit odd to me as well. I'm working toward getting my FFL certification, but I've already dropped a lot of money on incorporation, website work, logo work (it's only about two things, after all: Excellent Customer Service and marketing that makes sense), etc. I have a list of wholesalers that I am starting to work with...some won't talk to you until you have an FFL, others will be glad to have you move their products, so long as you don't try to move firearms or ammo. One thing you should do is join NSSF. Aside from the awesome ability to attend the SHOT show, you will be part of an organization of retailers and shooting enthusiasts that are dedicated to the success of the industry.

I guess my request appears vague.

I am already incorporated, have a space etc. I have a plan and all the other good stuff, but I don't intend to open a full gun store as some of you intend to or have done. My location conducts firearms training and allot of the individuals I've trained did not own a firearm, which is how I came across the idea of an FFL. I can greatly increase my profit by providing an easy avenue to purchase a firearm for these people.

Vendor/dealer/wholesaler question was in reference to finding reputable wholesalers mainy for firearms and such.

I've done my homework for the most part, but a recommendation from others who have dealt with a stand up vendor can't hurt.
The thought of an FFL is still fresh at this time so excuse me if I come off not knowing as much I should.
As for the negative opinions of others towards my plans or anything else, "I look at opinions like I do ***holes, everybody has one."
Everyone has there .02 of input be it good or.

I have found that a lot of vendors find out I had a FFL and sent me stuff unsolicited.
