Hello everyone.
I recently came into some money and I am thinking about making the jump to finally getting my class III and thus my weapon.
I am interested in both the MP5K and and M4 (which I carried in Iraq)
Do you guys know what these weapons typically cost? Am I going to have a rough time finding one or the other?
Also, I am aware that most are pre-86. Is it legally possible AT ALL to get new auto weapons?
Thanks so much! |

This is second hand information but everything that I have heard is that if you want to go class3, be prepared to be under close watch and spend $12,000. |

Class 3 is a firearms dealer. What you seek to become is an S.O.T.
special occupational Taxpayer = tax stamper to own NFA firearms.
All transferrable machineguns were made and registered prior to May 19, 1986.
You might find one NIB but that is a premium price that goes away the minute you pull the trigger. Buy a clean shooter and accessorize it to exactly what you want. MP5K's will all be sear guns but that is not a problem either.
K's and PDW's are famously ammo sensitive as the bolt travel is shorter than hat of an MP-5. You will find an MP-5 with fixed and retractable stocks a real nice choice. Buy an MP5SD and you will be set for life !
Buy a well priced M-16 and configure it to an M-4.
Thanks for your service....welcome to the world of NFA...where nothing happens fast ! Last edited by Dgunsmith; 09-24-2011 at 10:45 PM. |

You need to find a Class III dealer in your home state. As said, YOU do not get a Class III license. You apply to the BATFE for the DEALER to transfer the gun to you. You will pay the BATFE a one time $200 tax, pay the dealer HIS fees, and if in VA, you also need to register any full autos with the Virginia State Police.
Since there are no additional full autos being registered, price went WAY up. A legal, transferrable M16 is about $12,000. There ARE no legal, transferrable M4s- they came out AFTER the end date for registration- but you can use an M4 style upper on a legal M16. The HK is about $15,000. __________________ What we have heah is.... failure to communicate. |
