Default Winchester 61 & 67

ARE wINCHESTER 61 & 67 shot guns or 22 cal. rifles. I have a book that calls them shot guns that shoots short, long, and long rifle shot shells.

To the best of my knowledge.....
The winchester Model 61 is a hammerless, pump action .22 rifle capable of chambering short, long and long rifle cartridges. The Model 67 was a bolt action .22 rifle. Here is a link that has a 61 (in .22 mag w/ scope) and a 67 with pictures, descriptions and prices.

Thanks for the reply. The book I have is WINCHESTER SHOTGUNS AND SHOTSHELLS From the Hammer Double to the Model 59 by Ronald W. Stadt. He calls them .22 caliber rimfire rifles chambered for shot shells and he goes on to say they are little know shotguns used for pest control and target shooting and that the .22 Long Rifle Shot cartridge contains only 25 grains of No. 12 shot.

There WAS a smoothbore version of the Winchester 67, made to fire 22 LR SHOT (only) The smoothbore 22s are properly called shotguns, since they are not rifled. Shot rounds CAN be fired out of a rifled bore, but the spin imparted by the rifling will make the shot pattern resemble a doughnut, and give an effective range of about 25 FEET. The 22 LR SHOT cartridge has a tint load of VERy fine shot. Orginally a metallic cartridge with a crimped end, they are now made with a hollow plastic "bullet" filled with fine shot- usually #12 (see also lead dust) Mossberg (and others) made 22 smoothbores, and there was even one .20 cal rimfire used for INDOOR skeet shooting.

For $12 your should have at least taken them dancing and bought them a drink. That is a REAL good buy if the rifle is in any kind of shape at all. Ya done good.
