at the time the russians damn near produced enough so every man woman and child on the planet could have one.
took me a while but i finally bought one then almost immediately bought a sniper version.

Is the spam can of Russian ammo (440 rounds) good enough? Or do y'all use "better" ammo for your MN? At less than $100 is just seems like an effective lead thrower and any ammo should work.
It's not like it is a tack driver in its accuracy, right?

Most aren't tack drivers. I shoot mil surp. Lots of fun. Cheap to shoot.

they can be. they are easily capable of moa accuracy with tuned handloads.
about halfway thru they show the hits/misses on the target. scope looks like a 2.5 power pu

They are capable of 1 MOA accuracy but probably not with the Mil Surp ammo. The rifle is armory sighted to shoot high at distance and also with bayonet mounted. Working the sights and better ammo should get decent groups. I picked up some Winchester but it's pricy at $1 per round. For plinking I'll just stick with the Mil Surp. Bear in mind you need to swab out the barrel with water or Windex to help battle the corrosive primers in the spam can ammo.

The ammonia in windex will counteract the corrosiveness of Russian milsurp? Wow.
Good info.
I've read about the affixed bayonet changing the trajectory. Also, that without the bayonet, there might actually not be enough rear sight change to make up for the loss of mass up front. Any thoughts?

That is sharp!! I've got to find a gun show and pick one up. I'm hesitant to buy one online. Guess I'm old school and want to look before I buy.

I bought my first one at Big 5 for $49 with a coupon they had in their ad. I was going to make a lamp out of it. But I just had to shoot it first. I was sold on that big old gun after the 1st shot. I now have a shorter one I purchased at a gun show with a full big paper grocery sack of hunting rounds. I estimate the cost of the ammo to be $500, none of it mil-sup. Got the whole deal for $200. These are a lot of fun, easy on the shooting budget and hard as heck on the old shoulder. Enjoy yours.
