Well, I finally got the Mosin!
Currently in the car "baking" the cosmo out. That actually works too. I can see the stuff dripping on the towel with the trash bag under it to protect the car. Whoever it was that said that idea, well done. I will post pics once I have it all nice and clean.

In for pics.

Wrap it in brown paper bags, and put it in your trunk. Yes it really does work well.

Not to mention that east of the Rockies, y'all are an easy-bake oven! We're about 80 degrees with 55 degree evenings, no rain, beautiful here in the NW!
I can't wait to see your new rifle (new is definitely a relative term). Is there a thread that goes through your process of choosing a Mosin and actually finding one? I'm right behind you, I think, with a few hundred dollars and an itch to get a larger caliber rifle in my hands besides the venerable AR. Can't wait to hear more! |
CD: Congrats on the Mosin, seems to be an epidemic of late. I just picked up a 1938 Izzy myself. Mine has been baking in my garage for a few days. Next steps are stripping it down and cleaning up the metal parts.
Looking forward to pics and news of your progress. |
How does one know if they are buying a gun which has already been expertly de-cosmo-ed? I suppose the question really is, at the crazy low prices for MN's why would anyone sell one after they've properly gotten it back into service?
Do most MN's need the de-cosmoline treatment? |
