A muzzle velocity of a mile a second I would have to guess some part of a rail gun cartridge.

Yes, Rex, it is a primer, viewed from the top, and it is screwed into it's base, also viewed.

No, hmh, not a rail gun cartridge.

You are correct, c3shooter, it is the 120 mm sabot cartridge used in the M1A1 Abrams tank. The penetrator, that "kills tanks", is made of depleted uranium and contains no explosives. The cartridge case is consumed during firing leaving only the base with primer to extract from the chamber. The pictured items are in my collection.

These are two other views of the base and primer. TPCSDS-T stands for Target Practice Cone Stabilized Discarding Sabot-Tracer.

This view is of the penetrator with sabot that separates from penetrator after leaving the smooth bore barrel of the M1A1 Abrams tank. The target practice penetrator is made of regular steel, not depleted uranium, and has a cone, not fins at the rear. The cone creates a drag, not achieving full velocity that fins would.

Weapons Trivia - Curio & Relic Discussion

This view is of a dummy cartridge used for practice loading. Except for the base, the cartridge is made of a synthetic material and weighs the same as a live cartridge.

This is two pages of information on this cartridge

Studying the picture, I will venture a guess that, unlike a blow back pistol, this pistol may be a blow forward semi-automatic. It also has a resemblance to a Dreyse pistol.

It appears the frame was fabricated from two separate sheet metal halves, not machined from a solid billet.
