can anyone explain to me the differences between the p38 and p1? i know squat about these but have became interested in them. my understanding was that the p38 was pre ww2 and p1 post ww2. jg sales has both and in the adds they look the same and the written description sounds the same. thanx.
Actually most postwar P38s do in fact have alloy frames. The P1 designation was assigned to the P38 when it was adopted by their postwar military and police. Early P1s are indistinguishable from P38s. Later improvements like the fat slide, sleeved barrel and hex nut reinforcement to the frame were all incorporated into later P1s.
P1. From 1957 to 1963 The pistols were called P38's, but are not to be confused w/ or are they worth what a wartime model is. From 1963 to the early 1980's P1's were produced. No P38's were produced from 1945 to 1957.
