I've been buying a few that have even butchered, but they shot great. Rebarreled one to 06 with a Rem 700 rethreaded barrel.

Had the opportunity to shoot my BIL's 1938 Turk last summer. He paid $75 for it ten years ago, with 300 rounds of 7.92X57 mil-surp ammo. I found it to be a big, clumsy feeling beast compared to my 1916 Spanish Short rifle, buit it was a very fun range toy, with acceptable accuracy. We were able to keep a soup can dancing for about a minute with both rifles and stripper clips at 30 yards, and it was throwing 2 inch groups at 100 yards. Not bad for a cheap, beat up old rifle. I say, if it comes with a couple hundred rounds, and the bore is good, go for it.

What about vz24 Czech Mausers? They're in the same price neighborhood. Samco has Spanish Mausers in .308 for $229 I think but I've heard negative things about them.

I have a Spanish Mauser in 8x57 that I shot 2 MOA with the Irons, Thats thats Phenominal for me. I dont know about the .308s but it seems to be a solid platform. It has been bubbaed.

My bad, it's not .308, it's 7.62x51. But I'm not entirely sure what I'm gonna do, I want a SKS, and a Mauser would be one rifle closer to my goal, but I've wanted a Garand since I was 6 and my dad made a deal with me that I pay for half the Garand at the CMP ($300 on my half) so I'm at a dilemma.

Ive been buying "other" mil-surps tryin' to get this Garand monkey off my back, now I have a cabinet overflowing with bolt actions, and my Garand lust is worse than ever!!

Ive been wanting one since i was 6. Plus the CMP South location is an hour and a half south from me and I already joined the Garand Collectors Association a few months ago, I have everything but the time to go and funds at the moment.
