kytowboater... You can modify a C&R gun any way you want, unless you're modifying it into an expressly illegal weapon. For example, Mosin/Nagant owners modify their collections in many ways (stock refinishes, scopes, etc.). You can always call ATF if you have a question.

Tolly- that is IMPORTING a firearm. If you want to do that, you will have a full time hobby- reading regulations of the STATE Dept and the COMMERCE Dept- and filling out paperwork. And you would become good friends with US Customs. The best I could say is it is a ROYAL PITA.
No, a C&R FFL does not permit you to import firearms. THAT is a Type 8 FFL.
