Nice rifle. There are cautions about using those low number receivers. However, the testing done by the govt seems to indicate the risk is relatively low for those low number receivers to fail.

The CMP recommends not shooting any of the Springfields with the serial numbers lower than 800,000.

Take it to a gunsmith and see what he says before firing it.
