The Spanish used the Cetme in 7.62 cetme and 7.62x51. Not sure about an M1A.

That is not the model number. That is part of the importer stamp. Samco Global, they imported guns through Miami. The "MIA" is an abbreviation for Miami.

Would need to see more of the firearm to be able to give you more details.

A full picture would be helpful. There were several different Spanish bolt actions that have been imported over the years. I have two Spanish "short rifles" in 7mm Mauser and a Spanish FR-8 in 7.62 X 51. There were other 7mm's from Spain and the FR-7 as well as the "Guardia Civil" 7.62mm converted small ring "short rifles".

And yes, MIA is for Miami. Importers are required to stamp firearms with their name and city.

Well, i was able to id it today, its an unmarked 1916 model Spanish Mauser.

SSGN_Doc 11-10-2012 02:56 PM

The 1916 was basically a short model '95 Mauser. These were small ring actions with the pre-1898 action. The Spanish chambered them in 7mm and some were rechambered to 7.62. The lighter action may not be the best for full power modern. 7.62 or .308 loads, but otherwise they are a quality made rifle. I'd like to find one in the 7x57 Mauser round myself, because it is a fairly gentle, yet capable hunting round.

There has been much diatribe over the safety of the 7.62 X 51 small ring Spanish Mausers. I ascribe to the camp that believes it to be a BAD idea. IF and only if you load very moderate loads and shoot NO commercial .308 ammo you can probably get away with it.
