That looks like an 1867 .43 Egyptian. Most of these had very good bores. The .43 Egyptian was based on the great 44-77 BN Ctg. I have one of these that I worked over and shoot the BP .43 Caliber. Most of these rifles were issued to the French Army.

Is there a quick way to tell whether its a Spanish or Egyptian without doing a cast of the chamber?

It's an Egyptian RRB numnber 1. Suitable for black powder ctgs only. There are no commercial after market barrels that are threaded for that action so you will have to have any barrel custom cut for it. Be prepared to spend about $500 to make a nice complete rifle.

Sorry guys...I got wrapped up in a few other things. I will be posting updated pics tonight or tomorrow of the cleaning and reassembly of this. I took enough dirt out of the trigger & spring assembly to re-landscape a small yard. I can't believe this thing worked at all. Check in later.....
