restoring 1903 & 1917
Started work on my inhereted 1903 and 1917 rfles today
All 3 were stored in an attic for 50 plus years and it showed
the first 1903 Springfield arms 900,000 1918 is in the worst shape. Heavy rust and mold on stock. Wood split. I got it mold stripped and stock glued. It will get many coats of tung oil. I don't think I can save the finsh so i'm going to have to do the unthinkable, buff all the metal smooth and re-blue
the 2nd 1903 Remington 3,400,000 1942 is in much better shape only light surface rust and was able to save 95% of the original finish. I do not plan on touching up blueing. I will leave the character it has earned. This stock is also covered with mold but the wood is solid. I cleaned the mold off buffed and given her a few coats of tung oil
i havent started the 1917 eddistone but its in very bad shape too
i will have pic too
