Is it really bad for my Garand if I shoot new ammo?

I've heard opinions from everywhere, but I need facts, can I fire new production ammo with my M1, Im not talking 290 grain exploding tip armor piercing tracers:rolleyes:, just the run of the mill wal-mart stuff, thanks for the input.

OK, here is the problem- the Garand was designed to use a cartridge that not only is a particular energy level, but a pressure CURVE- has to do with the gas operating system. The wrong ammo can wind up battering, ending, breaking the operating rod. They used to be dirt cheap. Priced one lately? There IS civilian 30-06 that duplicates the cal 30 M2 Ball load the rifle was designed to use.

If you want to shoot off the shelf ammo through your Garand, get the Schuster gas nut. It is adjustable and only $34. It will save your op rod and countless headaches.

Don't use factory loads in your Garand. It will hurt it. Start reloading your own.

Here is some new manufacture ammo made for the Garand. Hornady has a match load also.
AMM-675 - Ammo .30-06 Springfield Federal American Eagle Full Metal Jacket 150 Grain 2740 fps 20 Round Box For the M1 Garand

The CMP has some Greek surplus that would be fine also.

Just installed my Schuster gas nut and adjusted it to cycle the action, big help, thanks.

The CMP ammo is Greek Boxer-primed M2 Ball for .50/rd. It has about 190 rounds/sealed can.

You will probably need the same club (or G. Collectors Assoc.) paperwork as you would to buy a rifle.
