I don't see the difference.

Is the grinding done where the cartridge contacts the extractor? Because they both look the same to me... mine may be a bit more worn.

I looked a little more into this issue and have found the Springfield extractor to have a bevel.
On page one of this thread a person asserts the Mauser bevel condition and later on page 2 confirms that is not the case.

On page 6 it shows mechanical drawings of the extractor with the bevel.

A later poster of that thread, was using an extractor that wasn't to specification, he later noticed his extractor didn't have a hole in it like shown in the drawings, as is with mine.
I would look into the notion that your extractor isn't according to specs.

On a side note: Reading that thread; I found out that my magazine follower is for a 1917... I think. It looks exactly like the one in my M1917 Eddystone.

I actually do see a difference now. The edge of the extractor that initially contacts the cartridge is a bit shorter; it may be due to wear. My US Model of 1917 Eddystone's extractor is even more pronounced than that one; it looks much like snipertomt's extractor on page 4.
