DefaultNo.4 mk1 metal finish

Picked up an Enfield and want to clean it up,not restore it,but it its fairly ratty.
The stock is easy but how would you go about freshening the metal?
This is not a standard blued finnish but a coating or paint (parkerized from the factory?)and is VERY chipped and scratched.
I would like it if I didn't have to redo all the metal but I may have to.
I'll get pics as soon as I can but mabye somebody out there has dealt with this before.

The finish is black paint. It strips off easily and can be matched from any of a number of spray paints.

That black paint is an Indian refurb. It should have an FTR or FTF electro pencil on the receiver. The Numbers will tell if it was repaired or upgraded. My 1942 Longbranch No4mk1* has the * x'ed out and has a FTR 1952 1/3, which means it has a complete trigger upgrade done by Longbranch. You can strip the paint and the bluing underneath is usually pretty good.

Strip the old paint. It may or may not have bluing (wartime, things got a little rushed) If you want to put it back like it was, Hi Temp BBQ grill paint.

That is what I was thinking, but I thought it would be too flat.
Have you used it or seen the results?

Tried the BBQ black, came out better than I thought it would.
I used 2 coats of tung oil on the stock.
