My Trapdoor Carbine
10 Attachment(s)
I finially got my 1873 Trapdoor Carbine back today and I am very pleased with the outcome. I'm not the best at taking pictures but here are some before and after shots. I need to come up with a black powder load for a 400 gr cast lead bullet.

With a 400 grain projo the carbines kick quite hard. I have had better results with projos in the 300-350 range,

I load for my 45/70 trapdoor using a 405gr fn over 12grs. of Trail Boss. Regards Dick.

67 grains of bp under a 405 grain LRN. A lot of carbines were made from cut down rifles. The rear sight should have a C stamped on it and look for a filled cleaning rod hole in the forend tip. If that's not there there may be a seam under the barrel band where the rifle tip was replaced with a real carbine tip. If those check out it's most likely a genuine carbine.

That looks really nice. I've been reading up on the Springfield Trapdoor and you've got quite a rifle!

She didn't look bad for her age before you got the work done, but she is absolutely stunning now String.
