Well I've decided to name the 91/30 "Gant". My little brother(16) has a bit of a learning problem and can't pronounce some words correctly, dad pronounces Mosin Nagant like Moe-sin Nuh-gant so little brother can't say Mosin Nagant he just says "Gant" so that's what it's name is.

I'm planning to buy a Mosin Nagant during the next month or so. I found a local gun store that have about 15 or 20 rifles for 110 ea., so I'm may be able to pick the condition of the rifle. Since I do not know a lot about the mechanics of the rifle, I would like to know what should I look for to be able to pick the one in the best conditions?

Thanks you in advance for your replies and advise.

You need to get a scope/mount designed specifically for the mosin-nagant. Generic ones don't work.

I modified a Remington 1100 mount for my Mosin.

It is solid and works well. I drilled and tapped 3 holes to mount it.
