And, after that, wrap the barrel in oiled felt and watch the groups improve even more, especially with good ammo!

Joshua, I've been shooting 7.62x54r rifles since the late 1980's. I'm not following you.

Hello,

I haven't been here for a bit... lost my bookmarks. Did something really stupid to Firefox by not paying attention.

Anyway, that is a trick (cheap "bedding") that some WWII snipers used.

Another was tweaking the trigger, similar to this Finnish technique:

That trigger spring mod makes all the difference. I did it to mine, though I polished and bent only, didn't file as I do not believe in changing sear angles. Still, it's a very smoooth, light trigger which lends itself well to precision shooting.

Josh

i did the same to my knockoff mosin sniper....polished sear, inside of trigger where sear contacts, very hard to do w/out propper tools.but you can also add a shim under the sear where the screw holds it into place...i did this & have no slack & very lil creep in the trigger...trigger pull is less then 1LB.Your rifle may very in what shim/s you use.i used a small piece from soda can,the more shims you add the less pull you'll get.just make sure after adding shims you cock the rifle ''unloaded of course'' & smack the buttstock on the ground, making sure the sear does not trip

That belongs in the Bubba gunsmith forum. Don't think we have that yet.
