If you have trouble finding one in a brick and mortar store, try Gunbroker. I bought what I hope will be a servicable T-53 (Chinese M-44) for $100.00 last week.
I wouldn't pay over $200.00 for a M-44 unless it was very special. Many of the sellers on GB seem to think the 44s are made of gold.
