Default Mauser question

Hey guys got a Q for ya. Despite my name being, MauserMan, I only own one Mauser. I've always liked the Mausers, but could never afford one. Well, I walked into the gun store middle of last week and seen they had a particular mauser marked as a German K98 and had a low, low, low, low price on it. Well, I asked to see it and looked at it and thought to myself "this doesn't look like a k98, let alone a german k98". i was looking at it and asked what the lowest they were take on it was. Well, I ended up getting it for 200 + tax. Got it home and there was nothing that pointed to this being a German k98. So I got my gun book out, flipped to the Mauser section, started looking and found my rifle. I had got a Mauser m48 BO. I had heard of them before, but never seen one. So I got on my trusty laptop, google searched it, and found some info. One site i had found said that Yugoslavia had only produced 3000 of these particular rifle. Is there any truth to this? Also, is 200 too much, too little, just right for this particular model? The action is slick as a whistle and shoots perfect. I figured if the gun shoots, its worth 200. I appreciate the help guys!

An M48 BO huh, The "bo" stands for "bez oznake" and translates roughly as "unmarked" or "without markings." These were identical to and manufactured concurrent with the crested M48B but were not stamped with any national or manufacturer's markings. There were some 1& a 1/4 million of the M48`s made & YES 200 buck is a OK price. Good luck with her !................

You did very good for $200 for a M48-BO. Most places are selling the normal M48's for $250-325, and if my memory serves me correctly, the BOs were made with no makers marks, just serial numbers, and a mix of stamped and milled parts. Also, I think they were made on German machinery post-WWII, along with the M24/47s (which were mostly M24s and K98k's that were updated into Yugoslavian service, as well as newly made rifles). They are uncommon as far as Yugo Mausers go. The Yugos made some great Mausers, as well as every other gun they made. Personally, I think the Yugoslavian Mausers are in the top 5 best Mausers. Germany, Sweden, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, then Belgium. The M48 was the last military Mauser made and issued by a "major" power, and some saw service in the Yugo/Balkan breakup mess in the 90s, mainly as "stop gaps" and snipers. You got a good deal! Congrats! We'd love to see pictures. Enjoy it -zaitsev

She looks good! Has that nice, issued look. Yours has the semi-bent bolt handle. I like the color of the wood too! Very nice find! You can never go wrong with Yugoslavian guns!

You got a very good deal on your Mauser MM12. Looks to me loke a mil-surp should, used, but still pretty damn fine.

Thanks a lot guys! Glad to hear I didn't get burned on it! She would look nice next to my Yugo SKS if I still had it.
