Used to have one in the original French caliber. I've heard that there were usually problems with the .308 converted rifles. Still might be a good shooter but I'd pass and try to find one in 7.5 French.

Default Mas 49/56

Beware firing these with comercial primers as the floating firing pin can slam fire a round.I have a modified pin that I use when I shoot comercial ammo. The original French 7.5MAS ammo has very hard primers so there is no problem using the original ammo.

MAS 1936 modified - Curio & Relic Discussion

if the century "wizards" modified any rifle...drop it and run.
I had a friend that bought one of those converted to 308 DON"T DO IT.

Here are the pictures -- it took some effort to figure out how to upload them.

The French made 200 MAS49/56 rifles in 7.62 NATO cal with no problems. No problem with the pressures of 7.62 NATO.These are still in French Army service.

Rad- in keeping with long established tradition here, you should immediately buy the thread a birthday card and a cake.

It's a bit over 2 years old.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ,not even close for a converted rifle ,i may pay 300 just me.looks good, but good luck with it on firing 308 commercial ammo through it.
