Please excuse my noobie-ness. I'm still in the learning phase. But I was wondering if I were to buy M1 Garand parts and assemble it myself, would I save money doing so? Is that even possible? I really short on cash right now, (College Student) but I want to at least get my feet in the water. Any input would be greatly appreciated. |

You can get a field grade M1 from the CMP for $495. A lot cheaper than putting one together yourself unless you can find parts really cheap.
Here are the requirements to purchase from the CMP. __________________ 9x18=Makarov |

Unless you found a hell of a buy on parts at a yard sale/ flea market, ALL of the parts will cost you more than a CMP rifle. Also please note these are NOT "insert tab A into slot B" assemblies- things like barrel vises, action wrenches, headspace guages- and why are my sights on the left side of the barrel????
There is a popular Remington .22 rifle- the Model 550- that has been out of production for some time. I see on line auctions for parts for those- and I could buy 5 complete rifles for the "parts" price of one parted out rifle. __________________ What we have heah is.... failure to communicate. |

Is there a reason you're sold on this rifle? There are cheaper ones to be had if you're new to shooting.
As the others said, parts for this thing can creep up to the ridiculous line, and then jump over it, pricewise. |

Do I need another reason than it's an American classic that helped us to win WWII? |

Enough said. Good luck. I hope you find one at a good price. __________________ Romans 1:16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. |

The Garand also held the line against a million screaming Chinese in Korea!
I have also seen pictures of ARVN soldiers training with the Garand (true, the rifle was as big as the soldier ). __________________ "Don Corleone: I'm a superstitious man, and if some unlucky accident should befall Michael-if he is to be shot in the head by a police officer, or be found hung dead in a jail cell... or if he should be struck by a bolt of lightning - then I'm going to blame some of the people in this room; and then I do not forgive. No Sir, you do not. The M1 is more than "Iconic."
General Patton said, "The M1 rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised".
Pity he did not live long enough to see an M14. __________________ NRA-Life

Settle down, settle down, it's a fine choice, just didn't know the OP's experience. |
