This list is growing, ran into a
Chinese Mauser yesterday for $350 IIRC in really bad shape. Some French rifle I don't remember, a Finnish m44 for $300 IIRC that was pretty.

I've seen them in 308 but 303 costs about the same.

You just missed it. I sold a perfect 1942 Longbranch No4mk1/3. FTR 1952 w/ Trigger upgrade and micrometer sight (/3). $540.00 with 300 rounds of HXP mark VIIZ on chargers in bandoliers in sealed can from 1975, and 5 boxes of commercail ammo, 3 were Hornady.

It would be hard to go wrong with a M39 Fin. Guns n ammo still has some left. Two of them have receivers old enough you buy them though the mail with out any paper work just a copy of you drivers licence. http://www.gunsnammo.com/

I agree with the enfield, the 303 is a great cartridge, its a great deer cartridge if you dont mind carrying the rifle.

If you are talking about the Enfield I posted, it`s not a .303, it`s a 7.62x51/.308................

The Enfield 2A1 is 7.62 NATO. Made for that round from the get-go, it is not a rechambered .303.

The Swiss K-31 is ugly as hell, shoots incredibly well, Swiss Milsurp ammo is basically match ammo. Ammo is not dirt cheap but not incredibly high.

The Mauser 48A is basically the German Mauser 98, but made in Yugoslavia after the war. Most are unissued, in REALLY good shape, and you can still get 8mm Mauser ammo dirt cheap.

In your price range you can also get a really good Ruger 22 pistol in several varieties. You can also shop around for some used but well loved Colt and S&W revolvers that are below $500. Look for blued steel.

How ya fixed for shotguns?
