trez that is my little baby its a erfuhrt 1891 kar88 it is a carbine version of the comm 1888 it,s luckily all matching /original.
i did some research on the front band markings B.6.CH.1,77,, and it turns out that this particular rifles markings mean "77th weapon, 1st troop, kgl.bayer.6. chevaulegers-regiment prinz Albrecht von preuben,"
chevaulegers are light horse.
the bavarians were, i think ,the only state of the german empire to have a light cavalry .
sorry for the long winded answere but she is my baby and yes it is 8x57jbore (318).
i cast and handload so ammo for it is not a problem.thanks and yall have a great day .adrians

The sling cut in the stock is very odd for and '88, even a GEW98. Are there Nazi German or Austrian police stamps on it?

jp,
"The sling cut in the stock is very odd for and '88, even a GEW98. Are there Nazi German or Austrian police stamps on it? "
jp i don't quite understand the question , where should i be looking for the stamps?
the cartouches on the stock a very faint and they are in the "cut "itself, i can't make em out .
or are you talking about some other marks on the rifle?
all my research on this mod88 show the same sling cut.
the #s in the stock / barrel channel all match the the rifle, iv'e seen lots of pics of kar88"s and it looks just the same... just curious
