Krag Questions.....

Don't know!
I am far from an expert on Krags but I can find no reference to a 1894 Krag carbine in any of my books. Blue Book of Gun Values thirtieth edition lists a 1892 Krag dated 1894 but thats a rifle and they say only 2 1892 carbines are known to exist. They also mention a 1892 Cadet Rifle but its almost as rare as the carbine. Then they move on to 1895 and 1896 rifles and carbines. The 6th edition of the Standard Catalog of Military Firearms pretty much agrees but only list the 1892 in rifle form under United States military firearms. Under Norway they do list a 1894 Krag but only in rifle form. The first carbine they list is the 1895. As I said I don't really know much about Krags but just wanted to share what my books say. I'm sure someone here will jump in that has more knowledge than I.

Yeah, I just read that there were no "actual" 1894 carbines, but due to not having enough in the Philippines they took some of the old 94's, cut them to carbine length and put them in a '96 carbine stock... Also read that after the '03 was adopted many were cut into carbine form and issued to the National Guard and Police forces...

I guess its one of those things "Who Knows??" until I see it...

I have a book of mil surplus values and it has the carbines listed in it.

Yeah I can see that happening. I expect the "make do" carbines are going to be hard to pin down. Good luck.

What would be a decent price for a sporter one? It looks to be in good shape without any holes drilled in it...

I usually see them for $200-$240.

If it is an original carbine it will have a small C on both the front and rear sight. At least mine do.
