hex receiver mosin vs round receiver

I always thought the third notch was used just to unscrew the firing pin for dissaembly.

No its the the 4th notch used to remove the firing pin some multi tools are diffrent then others wich is the reason I kind of dont trust the fire pin protrusion notches does yours look like this?

The notches are a no go gauge to set the firing pin. There is a tutorial on using the no go gauge at this site. http://www.milsurps.com/content.php

The milsurps knowledge base has a tutorial on everything about a 91/30 and other Mosin Nagants. The Milsurps knowledge base is heavily moderated. None of the tutorials is an opinion...They are facts, complete with citations.

Early in this thread someone commented about maybe Winchester making the 91 Mosin rifles. Wasn't Winchester, it was Westinghouse that got a contract from the imperial Russian govn't to make 91 Mosins during World War I. Think it was the only time Westinghouse made a rifle.
