Help with my Arisaka.....
I was cleaning my Arisaka today after shooting it and noticed a small crack in my bolt body.. I love my Arisaka and it saddens me that its cracked. Mines a type 99 with the Mum, AA sights, And is not a last ditch model.... ( no matter how much I like it, If I cant shoot it, I dont want it... :( )
Is it worth trying to find another bolt body? What are the chances it will headspace right if I were to order one off gunbroker or ebay? Or would I just be better off selling it as a wall hanger and look for a new one? |
where is the crack located on the bolt body?
if its not near the locking lugs & more to the rear,i would TIG weld it or have it TIG welded.but thats just me:D take it to a smith & see what they would suggest in keeping her safe & original.worse case i see is buying another bolt body then having the smith check the headspace. |
The crack is towards the rear, just in front of the bolt handle. Its a L-shaped hairline crack...

you got a heck of a rifle there,do the numbers match on the bolt/ect to the rest of the rifle?
if the #'s match i would let a smith give it a look over,& get him to fix it ''right'' if the #'s dont match,i would pick up another bolt body, change it out & call it a day:) Sarco, inc. have jap type 99 bolt bodies for 20bucks.then have the headspace checked! |
its 100% matching..... So you guys think a gunsmith can fix it? I hope I can find one who can fix it... I usually have the hardest time finding a gunsmith who is willing to touch my old guns.... :( Thanks M72... I may try to get a new bolt body and keep the old one.....
