Default Got a M1 !

... and no it isnt a International....

Its a 1943 Springfield, rebarreled in 1952. Its still a M1, and it had holes in the stock for the grenade launching sight, So I thought what the hell...

I ordered a kit with the grenade launching accessories, and happened to find a couple of extra projectiles at a gun show. So heres what I ended up with...

Trez,

Now that is very cool! And I learned a little more about the M-1 Garand regarding the launcher unit and sight. I have a few but never knew about the launcher system and the two holes in the stock! Thanks for the pics!

I bought an M1 Garand from CMP a few years ago - a 1955 Springfield - and throughly enjoy it! Here's a little excerpt from my father's 80th birthday and
family reunion (he'll be 95 this year). Nobody had plans to say anything during the candle & birthday cake celebration so I wrote down a few things I know he went through in life and one of the things I mentioned involved the M1 grenade launcher. It's about the only experience I can relate to with the M1 grenade launcher:

"We also offer much thanks to “Sheep Dip” for shooting and killing that young Nazi soldier a few feet from you in the forest and keeping you alive. Again, thanks for maintaining your humanity."
--
Just a short postscript to answer a couple of your questions; “Sheep Dip” was Mr. Charlie Linville of Johnson City, TN. On the occasion sited above, Dad’s M-1 rifle was fitted with a grenade launcher (which made the actual rifle incapable of firing bullets). Since they were walking through a forest, where obviously it wouldn’t be very wise to launch grenades, Dad was soon “highly motivated” to remove the grenade launcher after the German infantryman charged Dad and was just a second or two from shooting him. Thankfully, ‘Sheep Dip’ shot first.

TREZ! DO YOU HAVE GRENADE LAUNCHER BLANKS ???

Don't mean to yell, but have seen folks try that with ball ammo.

Did not end well.....

I just used some standard M1909 blanks...They dont have the Ooooph of the M3 grenade blank. Only could get it to launch out about 100 yds.

Good to see you finally got one, Trez! My hunt ended about two months ago with a 1943 Winchester. Enjoy it and have fun with it! Congrats! I've never seen one with the holes in the side like that, that's very cool!
