I'm going to do a pillar (aluminum) bedding job plus I'm going to clean up the insides of the stock on my mosin M91/30. I may do the tried and true "tin" trick along with the pillar bedding since I'm not quite sure if I want to go the full epoxy/glass bedding route. I'm also going through and cleaning out the bore with some hard core cleaners, and polishing up some the trigger workings.

It's my hopes that I can turn this mosin into either an MOA or just above MOA rifle at 100 yards (there's some reworked Mosins out there almost putting bullet on bullet at that distance...lol).

Any tips from the community here?

No tips, but I for one wouldn't mind seeing your progress!

No need to bed the action, it may actually worsen accuracy. Do what the Finns did and shim the action to free float the barrel. A little trigger work and recrown if not freebored will improve things immensely. Make sure the stock isn't warped so it's touching the barrel.

I ain't rebedding no stock, but this is my first attempt at restoring a laminated one on my M44.




I really need a better camera, but I keep spending my money on guns.....Oh well, got my priorities right!

If your barrel "wiggles" you have a serious problem!

After tightening all screws, the best way to improve a Mosin's accuracy is to use premium ammo! Either good commercial or handload yourself, for what the particular rifle likes. Surplus ammo rarely gives decent accuracy (aside from the excellent Swiss GP11!)

I'm getting 1'' groups as 100 yards with Russian 147 grain light ball. It's also an ex-sniper, so that might have something to do with it.


Let me edit to add: Just because this perticular ammo shoots extremely well in my rifle, doesn't mean it will shoot well in somebody elses.
