Default eddystone 1917

So my wife just bought me a Eddystone model of 1917 with a U.S. stamp on it, Doesnt say much else. Can anyone give me some history on this rifle? The tag said it is a 30-06 would the SN be able to tell more. Wondering where this rifle might have been used, ect.

Thanks
