Default This Could Be The One

I was browsing Armslist doing my daily check and found a Israeli Mauser. It's 7.62 marked and some slight surface rust. The numbers don't match, but this is normal for Israeli Mausers. It has Mod.98 stamped under the 7.62 stamp. It also has a blue Arabic(?) rack mark on the right side. He wants $350 and he's 4 1/2 hours away (still in my state). It has a bayonet with it. I'm hoping to knock off about $60-75 off the price to compensate for the gas costs. What do y'all think? Should I shoot him an email?

If it was me I would. Shoot him an e-mail, and see if he will knock a little off the price due to the distance, or if he would be willing to meet you half way.

Let us know how it turns out.

He said in his post that the buyer needs to meet him there.

That sucks. yep try to get him to take something off the price due to the travel time both ways. Hope you get it, looks to be in good shape, with one hell of a back story.

Alright sounds good. And an interesting story indeed. Went from German hands, to Israeli, then Egyptian or Syrian, then possibly back to Israel then to the States! If it could only talk!

This rifle is a .308 re-barreled 98 Mauser. It was originally a 7.92X57 Cal. Mauser. Sounds rather high for one of these.

I've been told by people on Gunboards to keep looking, is it really that bad? Try say it's too rusty. Should I listen to them or go for it?

Can anyone ID the factory codes? Or if it's WWII or pre-WWII? Thanks!

The rifle shows rust damage around the action and barrel. I would not invest in this rifle.
