CMP's cheap Greek 30-06 ammo for Garand?
I read Orlando's reply about 30-06 for Garand, "shoot only good quality surplus M2 ball, or Hornady and Federal make Garand specific loads". The Hornady at the only place in town here that has it(Fargo,ND GanderMt) is $49.95 box of 20. Has anyone used the Greek ammo. I don't know if I want to rely on myself to pick and chose which cartridge should or shouldn't be fired, so maybe I'll have to go with the CMP Hornady 200 rounds for $249 which is still a heck of a deal.

Greek HXP is GTG. Shot better than the LC.

I shoot a bunch of the Greek '06 and it's great stuff. It's pretty accurate and it's clean.
edit in: I shoot it in my '43 Springfield Garand and in my 1917 Eddystone. |
The Greek (HXP) ball is widely considered the best stuff going right now. Non-corrosive, Clean, Accurate, reasonably priced and reloadable. What's not to like.

I've only used the Greek HXP in my M1. CMP has the best deal going as I last purchased two 192 round cans in enbloc clips ($96 each) and two 240 round boxed cans ($120 each). Clean and accurate, I've reloaded the brass and have been reusing the clips, all of which function perfectly. Theres a heck of a deal, 864 rounds + 48 clips + 8 bandoleers + 4 spam cans for $465 including shipping.

Finally used the Greek ammo
First, the 240 rounds came in a sort of large sardine can with that little tool you use to attach and twist around the can to remove a quarter inche of the metal to open the can. Hadn't seen that can opener for 25 or 30 years. Kind of neat to see it again. Ammo looked fantastic and shot just fine, no problems at all. Will order another can or two at $120 + $12 shipping a can. Them is some big cartridges. My wife did a double-take when she saw them.
