C&R lisence

What would be the advantage of having a C&R lisence? I bought a Mosin Nagant M44 a year ago and didn't have that lisence. Did I purchase the rifle illegally?

ScottG 05-05-2008 11:52 PM

Yes, you bought it illegally. Immediate send it to...... :p Just kidding.

The C&R license allows you to personally receive certain weapons classified by the BATFE as Curios or Relics, hence the name C&R, without going through a FFL dealer. You can order them online and have them delivered directly to your door. Saves a lot of time that way, but.....

Basically a C&R weapon is anything manufactured fifty years ago or older, except full auto. The BATFE will send you a nice thick book listing all the guns classified as C&R. You will need a lot of money to buy everything you want!!!!

Here are some places to look for C&R guns:

http://www.simpsonltd.com/

http://www.southernohiogun.com/

You can also get discounts from some online suppliers if you send them a copy of your C&R:

There are plenty of other places too, just search the internet or ask your local dealers. A C&R costs $30 for three years. Your first purchase and discounts will usually pay for the cost of the license. If you get one, be careful, they're said to be bad for your bank account....:D

heck I saved enough at brownells and midway to pay for the license, I have bought one gun with my C&R and 3 others without it so far lol

A DEALER has an 01 FFL. A COLLECTOR of Curio & Relic Arms has an 03 FFL. C&Rs are (1) guns over 50 yrs old, (2) Those on the list published by the BATFE (ALL Winchester 88s, ALL Colt Wodsman, etc, without regard to age) (3) Those designated by the curator of a museum (and approved by the ATF) as being a unique collectors item. www.cruffler.com has some good info. License is NOT a license to engage in business of buying and selling guns, but to collect. $30 for 3 years, simple application. Can sit at home, run computer search for auctions and wholesalers (most give discounts to a C&R FFL holder) find gun I like, send dealer payment and a signed xerox of my license- and he puts gun in mail to me. Most fun you can have for $30. Also good for out-of-state gun shows, since a C&R FFL holder can buy face-to-face in another state, where unlicensed person cannot in some cases.

C & R License

I am a newbee in the C & R stuff. One thread said not to "sign the original". Did they mean the License you will get from the Fed., & to just sign copies that you have to provide business in order to purchase?. Its kind of spooky to have to send the back part of the application to the local Law Enforcement !. Any thoughts folks ?
Thanks....."G"

Yes, don't sign the one they send you. Make copies and sign those before you mail them out or take them to a dealer.

As for sending a copy of the application to the local top cop, I don't care for it either, but they don't have approval rights. They just are notified you've applied. Maybe a backdoor reg scheme, maybe not.

What did you save on at Midway ?

Is their a certain age you would have to be? 18 or 21 I would guess right?

Has anyone ever had an "inspection" by the feds? If so how was it. I'm interested in getting my C&R but shy of inspections by our government.
