I believe that many of the Chinese Shang Ki Chek Mausers were used in the Boer War. They are around, but usually in pretty rough shape.

Boer Mauser are usually '93 action sporters and a few '95 action that you will never see. These were custom built rifles, not Mil-surp. Chang Ki Shek Mauser came years later during WWII>

So were those Mausers used by the Boers (the good guys) or by the Brits?

We spend SO MUCH money on guns to have redudancy "just in case" they get outlawed.
We spend SO MUCH on extra ammo so we will always have a stash "just in case" its outlawed..
If we just spent half of that money on supporting the NRA, we wouldn't have to worry about maintaining a stash "just in case"

The Boers had the Mausers..
Britain actually considered dropping the SMLE for the P14 because the Boers were beating the Brits and wanted their own "Mauser" design....

They actually had a completely different Mauser design in mind before WWII, and a 7mm. The cartridge was in the design stage and was dropped. The research again resumed after WWII. The .280 British, 7x43.

Actually pre-WWI... I think the Boer Wars ended in 1902(?) and the "Mauser" design was because of the Boers.
Quote:
During the Boer War the British were faced with accurate long-range fire from the famous Mauser rifles, model 1893 and 1895, in 7x57mm caliber. This smaller, high-velocity round prompted the War Department to develop their own "magnum" round, the .276 Enfield, in 1910. An advanced new rifle using a modified Mauser-pattern action was built to fire it, the Pattern 1913 Enfield (P13); effective mass production was still some way off when World War I started, to say nothing of the logistical nightmare of introducing a new rifle cartridge in wartime, so nothing came of it.
Adapting the design to fire the standard .303 round led to the Rifle, .303 Pattern 1914 (P14)
