tiberius10721 Sez:
This is my favorite rifle to shoot. So anyways today I was in big 5 and they had 2 yugo m48 rifles for 199.00 a piece. I went ahead and bought both of them because it seems like it is getting a little bit harder to find these old rifles. Something about these old mausers just makes my mouth water. Hard to explain
I sez:
If you have to explain Mauser-mania you don't have it! They wuz what they wuz and they is what they is... My own affliction began with my Dad's ww2 bring-back. Since that time Mausers of any sort seem to fly to my hands and leap to my shoulder... To paraphrase Queen Victoria, "Doubtless man could have built a better rifle, but doubtless man never did!"

I purchased a m27/48 and a m48 for 199.00 each right before christmas . The m27 had all matching numbers and is in excellent shape. The m48 looked like it had seen some use so I stripped and refinished the stock and it turned out beautiful. I'll post a pic of it tonight. I went by big five last week and all mausers are 399.00 . I just bought a vz 24 last week at my local gun store for 250.00 .looks brand new so it must have been refurbished. I've been looking online and it seems like the supply of mausers is drying up.

If you really want to get an addiction going, pick up a Swedish Mauser. First I bought an M96, then an M38...and then the CG-63. Those are target rifles built using M96 receivers. The workmanship on Swedes is top of the line and since hardly any were used in combat, they're normally in excellent shape. Also the 6.5x55 round is great round, extremely accurate and extremely mild recoil.

I sez: All true! I wonder if it is worth scoping a 96 rifle. Daughter has one with the loooong barrel bought for the distances encountered in New Mexico. The bolt is mismatched (everything else seems to match), the bullet seems to sail almost to infinity down range. Got an as-new Weaver 4 power I was thinking of putting on for her. Any thoughts about scopes on these particular rifles? I know there are scoped sniper rifles available but we havent the mun for that kinda fun!

I would not have it tap and drilled if I were you but you might consider installing one a scope mount that replaces rear sight.
