The bayonets make dandy lightning rods.
Can be used as a canoe paddle or club.
Kills every Mosquito and Black fly for 30 yards when fired.
Gives you an idea how bad a treatment center smells when using 1940's ammo.

Fox news shows stock footage every so often showing a towel head armed with mosin sniper rifle running around. You can always say " I got one of those"

I need one of the "top ten" T-shirts to go with my Mosin.
Seriously, though, There are a very capable rifle for anything you might use a long range bolt action for.
My buddy and I have sporterized one specifically for hog hunting. We shortened the barrel, more to make it fit in the gun safe than anything . With no front sight, we didn't need the rear sight any longer, so we added a cheapo picatinny mount in it's place, modified slightly to make it sturdy enough to actually mount something on. Then he dropped it into a $75 ATI sporter stock and added an inexpensive scope. All we need to do now is modify the bolt handle for improved access and action. The gun is loosening up nicely as we shoot it. I'll follow suit with my rifle after seeing what works well and what doesn't.
We don't really bother loading the magazine from the bench, but it will come in handy when hunting pigs.
