Looking for some pointers on shimming the Svt-40 at the rear of the reciever. Mine has about 1/16 of an inch play left to right and fore and aft.

Ah, another SVT thread from north of the border, I envy you guys. SVTs in the states are just prohibitively expensive.

I shimmed an SKS once with cardboard from a cereal box

Sorry, my post has little value I'm sure... I'm just really bored right now

These things are cheaper than dirt here. I think lever arms in Vancouver has them on sale for 250 plus shipping. The going rate is 289 for a refurb. I might pick up another

I wonder what the law is on bringing them across the border once you own it. I'm sure the restrictions are there or they would show up at gun shows in the north for $800.

Cork gasket material.

Or you could use glass bedding techniques. You might look up tutorials on skim bedding to get the sides or vertical surfaces.

I'm not sure. I think that you guys have some law about foreign made semi-autos. Works out great for us, we get tons of svt-40 and sks here for dirt cheap. I can get a brand new all-matching 1954 Tula SKS non-refurb to my door for 240 dollars shipped

Yes, we do. In 1989 the BATFE banned the importation of over 40 semi-auto milsurp rifles under the "sporting purposes" clause of the GCA 1968. This was the first US "assault weapons" ban. This ban was the work of Bush dope czar Bill Bennett, who imagined drug gangs having fire fights in the streets with semi-auto milsurp rifles.

Quote:
The permanent ban affects all but 7 of the 50 models included in the spring suspension. It does not affect the far larger number of virtually identical weapons manufactured domestically, nor does it affect foreign-made semiautomatic weapons already in the United States.

I'm not sure whether to be more jealous or mad.

Well, if it's any consolation all our semi-auto centerfires are pinned to 5 rds

(with the exception of the garand)
